The Quarter - Go Here, There, and Everywhere
The Quarter

Ahhh, Nawlins niightlife…if you’ve been, you know what we’re talking about. From the elegant historic restaurants, Preservation Hall Jazz, to over-the-top, anything goes, party-all-night Bourbon Street, it’s all there. And everyone’s invited…

But during those sultry days of exploring the alleys and architecture in the French Quarter, there’s nothing quite like enjoying the classic watering holes, offering cool, refreshing, specialty cocktails and local delicacies in one-of-a-kind gathering places where you’ll share your adventures with new friends on both sides of the bar. Here are our top five:

  1. The Napoloean House, 500 Chartres Street: circa 1914, is a true classic…European ambiance with a romantic history. Pull up to the bar or a courtyard table, order the signature Pimm’s cup and an amazing muffaletta in this oasis of charm.

2. Acme Oyster House, 724 Iberville Street: when we visit, we literally drop off our bags and grab a spot at the Acme within the first 30 minutes in Nawlins. The casual atmosphere and super-friendly staff are the perfect welcome, anytime, anyday. Avoid the evening lines and go before dinner. They’re shucking right at the bar, but don’t miss the chargrilled oysters, washed down with a cold Abita beer and an oyster shooter to get your day headed in the right direction. We’ve made a lot of new friends here…

3. The Hermes Bar, 725 Rue St. Louis: adjacent to Antoine’s restaurant, providing a romantic refuge since 1840, it all started here. Upscale, yet casual, the Pomme de Terre Souffles (puffed potatoes) and  Champagne with a splash of St. Germain is pure delight.

4. Desire Oyster Bar, 300 Bourbon Street: at the Royal Sonesta, the iconic Marquis invites you to the most authentic experience, with tin roof and checkerboard floor, sit at the bar or a hightop and watch the afternoon drift by with BBQ oysters and your cocktail of choice. By the time you leave, Bourbon Street may be gearing up for the evening’s craziness!

5. The Carousel Bar, 241 Royal Street: at the Hotel Monteleone (where we ALWAYS stay…a post to come). This is truly an experience not to be missed. The rotating bar revolves around a fixed center for one of the most fun rides outside the Magic Kingdom. (we call Nawlins the ‘happiest adult place on earth). You’ll have to squeeze into a stool next to your new best friend to enjoy one of the best spicy Bloody Marys in the world. The recent expansion now offers live music and is a major stop in any French Quarter bar crawl.
